Deer Plain Club, Inc. is located in Calhoun County, IL between the
Illinois and Mississippi rivers, these natural borders make for some of the
best deer hunting in the area. We are also in the southwestern Calhoun is a small county, that is long and skinny, the county is mostly agricultural, meaning that these deer have an abundance of corn, soybeans, wheat and milo along with clovers, alfalfa, grasses and of course apple and peach orchards to feed them and keep them fat and healthy, as you can see from many of the sheds we find and as if that wasn't enough we have acres of hardwoods for both food and cover along with CRP ground to furnish plenty of bedding grounds. All of these things combined make for a great hunting experience and the opportunity for any hunter to take the deer of a lifetime. Illinois Game and Fish Magazine writer P.J. Perea writes about this area "these riverine habitats are usually the most productive in terms of soil and nutrients and vegetative growth. The isolated rolling topography makes great places for the deer to grow old and multiply. It should follow that these areas should support good numbers of deer as well." Calhoun tops the list of Firearm counties from 1997-2003 with an average of 5.72 deer harvested per square mile.
Deer Plain Club, Inc. is owned and operated by father and son team Ron and
Keith Weigel. This club was originally formed for duck hunting in 1993,
since that time Ron and Keith have expanded into outfitting deer hunters,
starting about 1996. As lifelong residents and farmers of the land in |
